For my blog post, I have decided to relate my book on a news video. The reason why I have chosen a news video about a tornado in Oklahoma because it relates to the social issue of natural disasters/environment. The video identifies the terrors of a tornado. A tornado is a natural disaster because it is formed by warm and cold air masses clashing together. The video from, BBC News, shows a horrifying tornado, which killed many harmless civilians. Firstly, tornadoes can lead to death and injuries of many people who are nearby. In the video, it shows students and teachers injured very badly and also, other in search for family and friends. Secondly, tornadoes can destroy many homes because of its powerful winds. Tornadoes ram through homes and fully destroy them with great force. The video shows homes completely demolished, leaving no structures behind. This concerns society because now people are homeless and have no shelter. Lastly, the destruction of tornadoes can create blackouts and flooding leading to no electricity and water leaked into basements.
The video demonstrates the natural disasters of tornadoes and what they can do. This video relates to my book because a tornado occurs, making it difficult to survive. In the book, Life as We Knew It, a tornado occurs, while Miranda is at school. This makes it harder for Miranda and her family to survive because they have to dodge through a new obstacle. Recently, they heard about massive tsunamis and now, a tornado. At school Miranda and her teacher notice, “the winds had picked up, and branches were flying around outside…Ms. Hammish must have decided it was a tornado, because she told all of us to get up and go into the hallway;” this shows that a tornado is forming (Pfeffer 30). The significance of this quote defines that a tornado is being formed and everyone should be aware of this event. To survive everyone must get to a safe place, so they can avoid the tornado. The concern of this tornado is the aftermath because of the things it will destroy and the life it can take away or wound. Things are already ruff and this foreshadows it’s not getting any easier. This video relates to my book because in both, the video and the book, a tornado occurs and causes danger to cities. In conclusion, the natural disaster of a tornado creates social issues for survival.
