The sniper summary

The short story “The sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty is a story about a republican sniper who is fighting in the civil war in Ireland. The sniper is on a roof, and across the street the is also another sniper, but the other sniper is a free stater. Then comes an armored car and an old lady who is an informer. The old lady walks to the armored car and points to the sniper. The sniper sees what is happening and he shoots the man in the armored truck and also the old lady. The sniper on the other building sees what is happening and looks where the other sniper is and shoots him. The bullet hits the sniper in the arm, the sniper that got shot is furious and is trying to kill the other sniper. So the sniper makes a plan, he puts his cap on top of his sniper, and the other sniper thinks it is a real person so he shoots it. The sniper makes sure it falls down the street, so the other sniper will think he is dead. The  sniper than stands up and kills him. The sniper is really curious who did he kill so he goes to the body and it turns out to be his brother. Therefore the story is about to think before you do something, because the sniper had killed his brother, and he had not been thinking before who could be on the other side.

Dublin Shooting

Dublin- On March 6, 2015 Last night around 6 a.m. gunshots fired from two rooftops in the Courts area of Dublin, one dead man was found.

An unknown woman, who was a resident of the area, was shot and also her driver was also shot. The women was in a truck when the bullets had stuck her and her driver.The third death was a sniper who appears to be heavily armed, and who had been shot several times. The gunfire's started at around 4 a.m., between both sides, said the police ,half an hour later when the police approached the crime scene at the crime scene with the special investigation unit.

Dublin Police has closed the area and shut down the area for investigation, as they search for clues and evidence, such as evidence found was blood on both opposite rooftops, proving an clue of the two snipers on both sides. A rifle was also found in the middle of the street.

 A bystander who was in the neighborhood at the time of the incident exclaims, " I was in the area at the time of the incident when I herd shots being fired from two roofs, I was really scared so I hid out in a building I had seen everything happen ."

Dublin police are still investigating about more parts to this incident. They will be take more measures solving this investigation and are tell locals to beware of incidents.

Blog 2: Life as we knew it

For my blog, I have selected a video from BBC News, showing the destruction of a tsunami that hit Japan in 2011. The reason why I have chosen this video is because it relates to the theme natural disasters. This video shows the fishing port of Miyako in Iwate being destroyed by the wave. This tsunami had impacted Sendai, Iwate, Myagi, and many more cities/states in Japan. Thousands of people have been caught and died from the tsunami. Also, large areas of land near the coast have been flooded with water, leaving it being under seawater. This news article relates to my book, Life As We knew It, because in the book a tsunami had occurred and impacted many places. In the book, a news reporter announces damages and areas where the cities have been affected. Firstly, the news reporter says, “We are receiving reports of widespread tsunamis,” (page 22). This shows an occurrence of a tsunami has happened, while in 2011, Japan has been impacted by one also. Secondly, the news reporter gave more information saying, “There are confirmed reports of tidal waves twenty feet or higher in New York City,” (page 23). In Japan, they received tides which were about thirty feet high, while in the book; New York City has been hit by twenty feet tall tides. This shows almost a similar tsunami by a difference of approximately ten feet. Lastly, the news reporter says, “There is confirmation of massive damage to Miami. Many deaths,” (page 24). The significance of this quote is that there was a lot of destruction of buildings, homes, roads, and etc. Also, many people in Miami had died, which is much similar to what happened in Japan. In conclusion, the video from, BBC News, showing a tsunami hitting Japan in 2011, relates to my book because of numerous tsunamis that occurred to different countries and cities.

  The news article by, Rebecca Morelle, 'Biggest observed Meteorite impart' hits Moon is about an meteorite which hit the moon on September 11th 2013.1 had chosen this particular news article because of the natural disaster that occurred, which this article explains. The article explains how an meteorite had hit the Moon leaving a 40 meter crater on the Moon. It is a great article to relate to my book because of the catastrophe that happened in the book. This news article relates to die book, Life As We Knew It. and the social issue which is natural disasters. In die book, an asteroid hits the Moon, causing it to move out of its orbit and creating other natural disasters that happen on planet Earth. This news article written by Morelle, shows a meteorite hitting die Moon She describes that the meteor had left a 40 meter deep crater on the Moon. The relation between the book and the news article is that die Moon is being affected by rocks in space. Also, the book and die article say that it was the biggest impact on the Moon Meaning that the Moon had never been hit by something this big before. The Moon plays a big role on controlling the Earth's behavior because of die gravitational pull. To summarize, this article relates to my book because it portrays common incidents from the real world.

Child soldiers

A connection I can make after watching this video is of the movie blood diamonds, in the movie they kidnap kids and make them into child soldier just like in the video child soldiers. Also they brain wash the children just how the person in the documentary was brain washed into being a soldier. Challenges that have happened in the video are him being a soldier and being brain washed and trying to get away from that lifestyle. In the video the person tells us it was very challenging for him to get away from this life. The key concepts of this video was child soldiers and have they are transformed. In the video it tells us how the kids are first kidnapped then brain washed. Changes of attitude in the video are when he first talks about when he was kidnapped and was a soldier and how he got out.

The news article i read was about the theme war and conflict because it was about the war happening in the eastern Europe. The war is between Russia and Ukraine. The article I have read is about the German and French officials are going to Russia to have a talk of peace. Both the parties will meet in Russia to discuss proposals and try to stop the war. This article i have read reminds me of the proposals they would do in world war 1, such as all the treaties that have happened. For example the treaty of Vasillies, both parties discussed peace just like in Russia.
